I’m Vernon DaCosta, a Data Privacy Professional and Independent Data Protection Officer based in Kingston, Jamaica. I help organisations understand their obligations under Jamaica’s Data Protection Act, 2020 (JDPA 2020) and implement practical privacy measures that fit their day-to-day operations.
Background
My background in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, and information technology allows me to approach privacy from both a technical and operational perspective. Rather than focusing solely on policies and compliance, I work with organisations to develop practical processes, documentation, and controls that help protect personal information and support responsible data handling.
What I Do
I provide external Data Protection Officer (DPO) services, privacy assessments, implementation support, and ongoing privacy guidance. I also work alongside organisations that already have a DPO, helping to implement recommendations and strengthen their privacy programme.
My Niche
My primary focus is supporting Jamaican healthcare and health-related organisations that handle sensitive personal information, including medical practices, clinics, diagnostic services, and dental practices.
